Longs Peak

Originally uploaded by olsenis.
On Sunday morning, a group of four emerged from their roadside tents at 5:00 AM. The plan was to hit the trail head at 6:00 AM and make it to the summit of Longs Peak by noon, thus beating the afternoon thunderstorms. With a little luck, we could cover the 14 mile round trip in under 12 hours.

Longs Peak is known for being one of the most challenging 14,000 foot peaks in Colorado. The route demands strength, balance, and lots of endurance. Out of the six 14ers I have summited, this was by far the most dangerous. On more than one occasion, I was glad to have some experience rock climbing.

By the end of the day we would be bruised, battered, and generally beat up but successful. Feel free to follow the links and walk through the hike with us.

Start and end of the photos or see the whole group.
